The Rock at 32nd Street

What is The Rock at 32nd Street and why are we building it?
Phoenix has a lot of churches that do a lot of great things. But many of them only have full parking lots on Sunday mornings. Our dream has been to use our facility as a community center that serves the neighborhood seven days a week. We have been searching for a building where God would want us to set up this community center and in the summer of 2011 Genesis church with the help of National Covenant Properties purchased this building. The building itself is 66,000 composed of one large building, a smaller retail space, and a former restaurant. We believe that by building a multi-use facility, we will be able to provide community programs, low or no cost rental space, an excellent venue for music and community gatherings as well as a gathering place for Genesis worship. By seeing this building primarily as mission outpost to share the love of Jesus with others and not as a typical church building, will allow us to design programs and ministries that will incarnate Christ to our neighbors.

Who's involved in The Rock at 32nd Street?
We are extremely blessed to be able to partner with Alice Cooper's Solid Rock Foundation as we begin to develop the culture of The Rock at 32nd Street. Alice and Sheryl Cooper, together with SRF Executive Director, Jeff Moore, have vision that is a natural fit for what Genesis wants to see happen with this community center. With a heart for reaching teenagers through dance, music and the arts, Alice Cooper's Teen Center will be a major presence at The Rock at 32nd Street creating many avenues for Phoenix students to find and develop skills that could carry them forward in life.

What will The Rock at 32nd Street be used for?
We foresee aftercare programs, various sports and arts camps for children, computer classes, 12 step groups, marriage seminars, and other programming to meet the needs of the community. It is our hope that we will have a facility that is conducive to renting at a low rate to community groups who would like to use our facility for their meetings. We also desire to connect with local artists by giving them a venue to show and perform their art through open mic nights, coffeehouse concerts or theatrical productions.

What is the timeline for The Rock at 32nd Street?
We have currently finished our demolition phase, have our building permits in hand, and are beginning the buildout phase (11/2011). We hope to be in the building by the Spring of 2012.
